Unveiling the Treasures of Kasos
Kasos lies in the stunning Karpathian Sea, nestled between Karpathos and Crete, in what may be the most authentic corner of the Aegean. The island covers an area of 66.4 km² and has a coastline stretching 59 km.
It consists of five villages: Agia Marina, Poli, Panagia, Arvanitochori, and Fry (the capital).
On the island, you’ll find pristine beaches and secluded coves where you can enjoy the crystal-clear waters of the Aegean. If you’re a lover of tranquility and looking for an authentic destination far from the crowds, Kasos is exactly what you’re searching for — a place to relax, soak up the sun, and connect with nature.
Armathia – A Hidden Paradise
Take a boat trip to Armathia, the largest of the islets surrounding Kasos. Enjoy swimming at one of the most beautiful beaches in the Mediterranean — Marmara Beach, with fine sand both in and out of the water, and crystal-clear turquoise seas.
Caves of Kasos
The Ellinokamara Cave was a place of worship from the Mycenaean to the Hellenistic period and served as a refuge for locals during pirate raids. There is also the mountain cave of Stilokamara, also known as Selai, featuring impressive stalactites and stalagmites. The location offers breathtaking views!
Kasos for Nature Lovers and Explorers
Kasos is ideal for hikers and nature enthusiasts, offering numerous walking trails and scenic routes through mountains and paths leading to remote, untouched beaches.
Traditional Festivals of Kasos
Kasiots celebrate every occasion with music and joy. Under the traditional sounds of the lyra and laouto, the festivities begin with mantinades (rhyming couplets) and dances like sousta and zervos. Local women will treat you to traditional delicacies such as pilafi with cinnamon, the famous dolmadakia, homemade cheeses, wine, and raki — all prepared with love and skill.
Authentic Island Life
The locals, known for their warm hospitality, continue to live a simple and peaceful daily life that fills visitors with calm and serenity. The pristine beaches, picturesque villages, beautiful mantinades, joyful festivals, and delicious local dishes will make you never want to leave this island!
